The Library differs from the other two national libraries specified above in two important features. First, many of its holdings are on open access shelves; secondly, it permits the borrowing of books, except certain categories (mainly rare and valuable books). Registered Graduate Students are entitled to borrow from the Library.
An introduction to the Library on videotape is available for new readers on application at the issue desk. This is also shown at the presentations to new readers given by Library staff at the beginning of October each year. Each reader is given a leaflet Introduction to the Library which is intended to assist new users to find their way around what is inevitably a large and complicated building. This leaflet forms part of a loose-leaf Renders’ Hand book and other leaflets in the series can be collected in a ring-binder available at the Library.
Admission is by ticket, upon application to the Admissions Office at the Library.
Graduate Students should enquire at the desk in the Reading Room or the Catalogue Room if they require help in using the Library or in tracing any material they need.
The Library makes a greal deal of information about its stock and services available or its World-Wide-Web pages,
