The Language Centre is open to all members of the University. Graduate students from all disciplines can use the Centre to learn languages in a variety of ways. In the Independent Learning Centre over 120 languages are available from beginners’ to advanced level for private study. Facilities include audio, video and integrated multimedia workstations. The collection of resources include language learning courses, on-line dictioiiaries, CD-ROM databases, direct television broadcasts by satellite, documentaries on literary, cultural and historical topics and foreign language films. Graduate students may also join courses in French and German at beginners and intermediate levels during Michaelmas and Lent terms. The Language Learning Adviser is available for consultation during Full Term. The Language Centre also holds equipment, CCTV, etc., which can be used by graduate students for experimentation into processes of language learning and teaching.
