The Research – Centre for English and Applied Linguistics exists to promote research in English Language and in aspects of Applied Linguistics (particularly language processing, applied pragmatics, second language acquisition, second language learning). The Centre has 7 full-time research posts, its own premises, research library and computing resources. The M.Phil, in English and Applied Linguistics (target 10-12 candidates each year) provides research training and is taught in the Centre. Around 20 Ph.D. students undertake research in the Centre. The Centre receives occasional Visiting Fellows. Regular research seminars and research workshops are held.
The Centre normally requires a higher English language proficiency test score than the minimum score given in Chapter 1:
Paper-based TOEFL: 620, TWE 6.0 or computer-based TOEFL: 260, Essay Test 5.0
IELTS: 7.5
