Faculty of oriental studies
Applicants of sufficiently high standard are accepted to follow courses of research leading to the M.Litt. and Ph.D. Degrees, whenever supervision is available. Supervision can at present be provided in certain aspects of the following subjects:
Aramaic (including Syriac) Studies: Old and Middle Aramaic literature and philology; Jewish Aramaic; history and literature of the Syriac-speaking churches.
Assyriology, Ancient Mesopotamian history, literature, religion, philology (Akkadian), art and archaeology, social studies, history of civilization.
Chinese Studies: Classical and Modern Chinese language, Chinese literature, philosophy, history, economic history, art and archaeology, linguistics.
Egyptology: Ancient Egyptian and Coptic literature, philology, art, architecture, archaeology, and history.
Hebrew Studies: Biblical, post-biblical, medieval and modern Hebrew literature and philology; North-West Semitic epigraphy and Ugaritic.
Indian Studies: Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, and Hindi literature and philology; Indian art, archaeology, religion and history.
Islamic Studies: Arabic and Persian classical, modern, and colloquial language and literature, philosophy, early, medieval and contemporary history, civilization and thought.
Japanese Studies: Classical and Modern Japanese language, Japanese literature, religion and thought, cultural history, history both classical and modem, modern Japanese society and politics.
Graduate Students in the Faculty are required to follow such lecture courses as are appropriate to their course of research during their first year (during which they are not registered for any degree), and must taken and pass a progress examination in their third term, or (b) Rabbinical and Medieval Hebrew Studies

Hebrew halakhic literature
