Chinese Studies

The Faculty offers a two year programme of study and research on China and contemporary Chinese issues in law, politics, the environment, economics and management. The course begins with 2 terms of intensive language training in Modern Standard Chinese and cultural orientation as well as introductory courses in candidates’ fields of interest. Candidates then spend 9 months studying at a Chinese institution, returning to Cambridge for 2 final terms, at the end of which examinations are taken and a dissertation submitted.

The course is suitable for students already working in the above fields who wish to specialise in their Chinese aspects and for students in other areas of the social sciences who wish to follow a conversion course to equip them to work in the Chinese aspects of the topic. The leaching on the course is currently funded by the UK Higher Education Funding Council as part of a national programme of support for Chinese studies.

This course is awaiting approval by the University as at July 2000. Contact the Faculty for up-to-date information.

Closing date for completed applications: 31 March.
