This initiative, begun in 2000, offers undergraduates and postgraduates the chance to begin or maintain language skills in French or German. Other languages may be added to the programme in future years. Courses are offered at beginner and intermediate level and the programme focuses on speaking, listening and reading skills. It is free and open to postgraduates of any discipline, although places are limited. The courses run over the Michaelmas and Lent terms and require a time commitment at about 3 hours per week. A certificate will be awarded to students who complete their course satisfactorily.
